2015 READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY
with United Way of Central Maryland

Monday, March 2, 2015

United Way of Central Maryland is excited to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss as part of our READ LEARN SUCCEED program with volunteer readers.

To honor Dr. Seuss and the impact he’s made on early reading, volunteers will read The Cat in the Hat and engage young students in a fun corresponding activity that gets them excited about reading. We’ll be working mostly with first grade students at each school for a fun celebration.

We need you, your friends and colleagues to volunteer to help local students!

Learn more about United Way of Central Maryland’s READ LEARN SUCCEED program:

READ LEARN SUCCEED recruits volunteers to read and work with children 4th grade and younger. Volunteers, through shared book reading, become role models and help increase children’s vocabulary and understanding of the spoken language. Participants either read to a small group or a full classroom, or work one-on-one with a child to further develop his or her literary skills through a structured curriculum. Reading locations include schools, Head Start classrooms, day care facilities and after-school programs, Boys & Girls Clubs and the like. Participants volunteer either one hour a week or form a team with friends and colleagues and rotate their weekly volunteer commitment. UWCM helps with the volunteer coordination, pairing volunteers with opportunities most convenient to them. For more information, visit www.uwcm.org/read.
